A slender granite blade above Sky Pond in RMNP. The South Face (IV 5.8, ~8 pitches) is one of the Fifty Classic Climbs, finishing on a famously tiny knife-edge summit. Far more contained than the Cirque traverse — a single spire on a big day from Glacier Gorge (~4.5-mi approach): classic alpine multipitch without the multi-day commitment.

Rack: Single to #3 (doubles 0.5-2 nice), set of nuts, ~8 alpine draws.
Ropes: 70m single or 60m doubles — the descent raps want two ropes.
Footwear: Trail runners / approach shoes for the 4.5-mi approach; rock shoes on route.

⏰ Start & altitude
🌄 Timing: Bivy at Sky Pond or pre-dawn from Glacier Gorge TH. On route by ~7 AM; off the summit by noon — RMNP afternoon lightning is daily and lethal.
🫁 Altitude & sun: TH ~9,240 ft / summit ~12,000 ft. AMS flag from sea level — acclimatize a day. Glacier glasses + SPF on the exposed face.
